Angeles Ortega is a passionate advocate for the Latino community, she served 8 years as Executive Director of the Latin American Coalition in Charlotte, NC. Ortega works as a data dissemination specialist for the U. S. Census Bureau, developing and delivering data training. Ortega has received many awards including Hero of Democracy from the Charlotte Observer, The Business Journal’s Diversity Catalyst and NAACP Legal Defense Fund for Community Service. She was also honored with the Hispanic Elected Official’s Community Service Award, and the Community Service Award from La Noticia Newspaper. Ortega served in countless community boards, and was the first Latina to run for elected office in Mecklenburg County, NC. A native of Mexico, she studied Languages at the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, México and Non-Profit Management at the University of Nevada-Reno. She holds an MBA from Queens University of Charlotte.
